Reelight Reviews

Jun 02 2011 Published by admin under Uncategorized

The most convincing argument for our inductively-powered bike lights, manufactured by Reelight, is to see them for yourself. If you’re in Melbourne, I’m happy to show you in person! Failing that, here’s what the internet says…

“Simple, innovative, robust and green – perfect back-ups to your lights” — BikeRadar

“…I love them…no reason not to buy a pair.” — Wired

“Good fit and forget LED lights, but stop-friendly SL520s are better still” – road.cc (N.B. We stock the 520!)

“All things considered, these lights are a fantastic addition to any commuting bike. Incredibly reliable, always on, never out of batteries, what’s to lose?” — Bikehugger

“…always there and always on, free, once installed. So even if they save my life only once, it’ll be $100 very well spent.” — Average Joe Cyclist

“Simple, innovative, robust and green – perfect back-ups to your lights. 4/5/5 stars” — BikeRadar

“I really like the Reelight bike lights and I don’t hesitate at all in recommending them.” — Commute by Bike

“All in all, I HIGHLY recommend this product.” — Bike Commuting in Columbus

“…battery and hassle free, ecological and quite good looking. A solid choice for people wanting to be seen. 4/5 stars” — Comingthru

How to install the Reelight SL120 Bike Lights

May 31 2011 Published by admin under Uncategorized

Here’s a quick video we put together showing how to install the hub-mounted inductive bike lights from Reelight.

We’re working on a video for the SL620 series lights (which mount higher up on your bike), which should be out next week. If we’ve glossed over any details, or if you need some help installing the lights, just shoot us a message!

Reelights making their way into the Australian wilderness

Dec 06 2010 Published by admin under Uncategorized

Reelights are slowly making their way out our door.  Though we’ve yet to see them on the bike of a stranger here in Melbourne,  Aaron from the ACT was kind enough to post a video showing one of our rear-rack mounted Reelights on his Christiania Trike.

His electrified Christiania trike! Perhaps Mikael would disapprove, but we think it’s awesome. Stay tuned for our own version of the electrified cargo trike. Those batteries will be here any day now…

Reelights are battery-free always-on lights for your bike, and can be spotted on just about every bicycle in Copenhagen. We bought a pair of these lights whilst on holiday there, and loved them so much that we’re now distributing them in Australia!

No batteries, ever.

Reelight’s are inductively powered, using a magnet mounted to your wheel. No batteries to buy or recharge, ever.

Frictionless*.

Unlike a traditional dyno, there are no added moving parts, just a pair of magnets mounted to your wheels.

Weather and thief resistant.

With no batteries or buttons, the lights are completely sealed. They are permanently fitted, and not easily pinched (especially if you have security skewers rather than quick release).

Lights stay on, even when you stop.

A capacitor stores up energy while you ride, so that your lights keep blinking for several minutes after you stop moving.

Safe.

Whilst not a substitute for high powered halogen or LED lamps for cycling in complete darkness, they are bright enough to make you seen in urban areas.

Suitable for left hand side cycling.

Our lights are the UK version, where the lights mount on the right, facing traffic. Hooray!

* Dear Physicists and Engineers:  This isn’t strictly true, of course.  When the magnets on the wheel pass the coils inside the lights,  a current will be induced, which in turn produces a magnetic field that opposes the magnets motion. In practice, this resistance is so miniscule that we  can’t tell the difference between riding with and without Reelights. So you may as well have them!
